Lake Singletary Watershed Association

A $50K grant was awarded to LSWA by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2007. These funds were used to replace the valve mechanism in the outfall gate in Millbury.

The stainless steel gate mechanism was manufactured by Rodney Hunt Company and installed in November 2008 by R.H. White Construction.

During installation it was discovered that the dam mechanism was on the brink of failure and probably would not have lasted another season, with potentially serious results for Lake Singletary.

Earth Day Clean Up 4-20 2024

The annual Lake Singletary Earth Day Cleanup will be held April 20. We had a modest turnout last year, and really appreciate those who took part! Lets see how we can do this year!

Can’t join us? You can always help in many ways:

Retire your Styrofoam billets! The blue floatation billets were very popular 20-30 years ago, but now they are starting to degrade. Muskrats and other critters just love, love, love the soft foam and chew into to make nests and dens. These little bites are mistaken poison for fish, and more importantly float up on shore where they last forever. There are literally thousands of these bite-size contaminants all around our lake this spring. Please recognize this and upgrade your floatation. The ecosystem will appreciate it! Thanks
Consider watering lawns with lake water as a replacement for commercial fertilizer – lake water has many vital nutrients and some people have reported good results. Even small amounts of commercial fertilizer leaching in the lake promotes rapid weed and algae growth.
If you choose to fertilize, always use low phosphorous options – they are more expensive than regular options initially, but pays us back in many ways – including less need for reactive treatments to the watershed.
Never point grass clippings or leaf blowers towards the lake – that too accelerates invasive species, weeds and algae.
Control your wake when lake levels are high. There is danger of septic leaching and damage to shoreline ecosystems.
Dim the lights. The lake provides a natural mirror which sends flood and ornamental light further than you might think. Please consider your neighbor across the lake when placing lights. Point lights downward when possible to avoid light pollution.

Lake Singletary Watershed Association Announces 3 new Board Members.

We are pleased to report that Matt Connors, Bob Kimball, and Sean Kloczkowski have joined the LSWA Board of Directors, which was ratified by unanimous vote at the August 30 2023 General Meeting.

The Last Algae Treatment was on August 10!

Selected areas of Lake Singletary in Sutton/Millbury were chemically treated with USEPA/MA registered aquatic herbicides and algaecides to control nuisance and invasive aquatic vegetation and algae on Thursday, August 10, 2023. The entire lake was closed to swimming until August 11, 2023.

The treatment was done for the Lake Singletary Watershed Association, pursuant to licenses/permits from MassDEP and the Sutton and Millbury Conservation Commissions.

SOLitude Lake Management of Shrewsbury is the state licensed company that performed the treatment. Click for official posting and notice.

Do you want to be a part of a team who is dedicated to the preservation and protection of Lake Singletary and it’s watershed?

The LSWA board of directors are looking for NEW board members within the Singletary community to join us. LSWA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity volunteer organization. Commitment requires annual paid dues and actively participating in a committee for LSWA. Meetings run from March-October; we meet 1x per month and stay connected virtually year round.
