Welcome to Lake Singletary Watershed Association

Welcome to the The Lake Singletary Watershed Association. We are a volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation of our beautiful lake.

Greetings from the LSWA! As winter is here and we head into the coldest months, we can look back at a truly delightful season. Despite a soggy start that interfered with our Earth Day cleanup, we rallied from there. We had a fantastic 4th of July boat parade, an excellent rafting party, and a productive new members meeting, where we added to the Board of Directors, and of course the popular LSWA Golf Outing. The Board will be in hibernation until the next meeting in March of 2026, and keep any eye out for our 2026 Earth Day clean up.

We will still be monitoring the website - please contact us with any questions or suggestions.

Annual Water Drawdown Complete!

The annual drawdown is complete. Lake levels are at seasonal levels. Careful with any boating or ice related activities.

Update from Paul Kawolis about Certified Email from Solitude

If you received a certified letter from our lake management company, Solitude Lake Management, this is a new requirement by Millbury and Sutton Conservation Commissions, that before any Notice of Intent meetings all abutters be notified by certified mail.

It is a routine meeting for each town’s conservation commissions that takes place every two years when our Orders if Conditions covering lake treatments, weeds and algae and annual fall/winter drawdown and spring refill.

The lake treatments and water quality testing are done by Solitude, while the drawdown times and levels are controlled by the Town of Millbury. This meeting covers the Conservation Commissions renewal for the next two-year period. This has gone on for a little more than forty years. Over that period, we have occasionally changed treatments as better technology became available. This year there are no new herbicides or algaecides being introduced. Thank you for your support!

Earth Day Clean Up April 26 – Cancelled due to weather!

Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans for this Earth Day – we were down on rain too, so much appreciated. We can all still help when it clears. Please take a moment to tidy your coast and road and follow the guidelines below. See you soon!

Earth Day Clean Up 4-20 2024

The annual Lake Singletary Earth Day Cleanup was unfortunately canceled due to safety concerns. Fortunately, you can always help in many ways:

Retire your Styrofoam billets! The blue floatation billets were very popular 20-30 years ago, but now they are starting to degrade. Muskrats and other critters just love, love, love the soft foam and chew into to make nests and dens. These little bites are mistaken poison for fish, and more importantly float up on shore where they last forever. There are literally thousands of these bite-size contaminants all around our lake this spring. Please recognize this and upgrade your floatation. The ecosystem will appreciate it! Thanks
Consider watering lawns with lake water as a replacement for commercial fertilizer – lake water has many vital nutrients and some people have reported good results. Even small amounts of commercial fertilizer leaching in the lake promotes rapid weed and algae growth.
If you choose to fertilize, always use low phosphorous options – they are more expensive than regular options initially, but pays us back in many ways – including less need for reactive treatments to the watershed.
Never point grass clippings or leaf blowers towards the lake – that too accelerates invasive species, weeds and algae.
Control your wake when lake levels are high. There is danger of septic leaching and damage to shoreline ecosystems.
Dim the lights. The lake provides a natural mirror which sends flood and ornamental light further than you might think. Please consider your neighbor across the lake when placing lights. Point lights downward when possible to avoid light pollution.
